Meet the Chefs Battling It Out at the American River Parkway Foundation Burger Battle

The countdown is on for the American River Parkway Foundation Burger Battle, happening May 17th, 2025, at Discovery Park—and this year’s chef lineup is absolutely sizzling! From 12pm to 4pm, eight culinary contenders will fire up their grills during the Spring Recreation Fair, vying for the title of Sacramento’s Burger Champion. Whether you’re a fan of classic beefy perfection or crave something a little more adventurous, these chefs (and a couple of fire crews!) are ready to deliver. Here’s a sneak peek at who’s bringing the heat. First up, Chef Pedro Depina of 7th Street Standard is a master of elevated comfort food—expect a burger that’s as creative as it is delicious. Chef Santana Diaz from UC Davis Health combines skill and passion, promising a patty that’s both hearty and refined. Local favorite Chef Adam Pechal is no stranger to the Sacramento food scene, and his bold, flavorful approach is sure to impress. Then there’s Chef N’Gina Guyton of Jim Denny’s, carrying on a legacy of burger greatness with a nod to nostalgia. Chef Sam Shafer from Kimpton Sawyer will bring upscale flair, while Chef Patricio Wise of Nixtaco might just spice things up with a Mexican-inspired twist. And don’t count out the Sacramento City Fire Department and Sacramento Metro Fire District—these crews know how to handle heat, on and off the grill!
